WATCH: Portmore Mayor accuses JLP representatives of claiming work they did no initiate
PORTMORE, St. Catherine — Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas has pushed back against what he describes as false claims of development work being done in the municipality by a sitting member of parliament.
Speaking on Saturday during a People’s National Party (PNP) rally at the South St Catherine Constituency Office of the party’s Fitz Jackson, Thomas accused political representatives of the governing Jamaica Labour Party of taking credit for projects they did not initiate.
“They are running up and down and claiming that they have done work in Portmore. They have never done anything in Portmore,” Thomas declared.
He dismissed suggestions that an individual had lobbied for the installation of traffic signals in the municipality.
“Tell him that he is lying. He brings the Prime Minister to claim that he has done work by getting that traffic signal at HEART. It is the Portmore City Municipality, in partnership with Wigan and the National Works Agency that did that job,” Thomas said.
The mayor argued that some individuals repeatedly claimed credit for initiatives that fall directly under the responsibility of the municipality. He also questioned the use of state resources allocated for constituency development.
“I want to ask him a question tonight: What you do with your CDF (Constituency Development Fund) money?” Thomas said.
