James Robertson claims outsiders ‘infiltrating’ St Thomas
ST THOMAS, Jamaica — Despite claims that people from outside St Thomas have made their way to the parish and are upsetting residents, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate and incumbent Member of Parliament for St Thomas Western, James Robertson, is predicting massive margins for his party when the polls close on Wednesday evening.
He is also rubbishing claims that the constituency, which he has held since 2002, might slip through his hands this general election.
“We see massive margins, but a lot of things are happening. We see a lot of infiltration of individuals who don’t live or vote coming in from East Kingston, but we accept that. The road is good, so they are free to travel up and down.
“They are using infrastructure built by the Jamaica Labour Party to move up and down, and that’s part of broadening everything, including the social outreach,” Robertson told reporters at Yallahs Baptist Church on Wednesday, moments before he voted.
While he did not elaborate on what he claimed was happening, he stated that he has a full report and will be monitoring these activities.
“They are present, they’ve come in; they’ve come in from many different places, and they are upsetting the people, and when they upset the people, the people come out and vote because they don’t wish to be upset,” he added.
A confident Robertson said he is enjoying the momentum and organisation on the ground.
Robertson is going up against the People’s National Party’s Hurbert Williams, a former mayor of Morant Bay.
