Digicel restores services following fibre network vandalism
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Digicel has confirmed that internet, mobile, and TV services disrupted by a recent outage have now been fully restored. The company said the interruption was caused by deliberate vandalism of its connectivity partner’s fibre network, which left customers across several areas without service.
In a statement on Thursday, Digicel noted that its technical teams “worked around the clock” to carry out repairs and restore services in the shortest possible time.The provider also apologised to customers for the inconvenience and thanked them for their patience during the disruption.
“Digicel strongly condemns these reckless acts of vandalism, which undermine national connectivity and disrupt the lives of families, businesses, and communities that depend on our services daily,” the company said.
The telecommunications provider added that it is working closely with law enforcement to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
Looking ahead, Digicel said it will continue investing in measures to strengthen the resilience of its network to limit the impact of similar incidents in the future.
