SEVENTY-FIVE young minds were taken on a journey of learning how to effectively use artificial intelligence (AI) during the annual Supreme Ventures Foundation (SVF) Junior Creators Robotics Summer Camp.

Designed for children aged seven to 12, this year’s camp was held under the theme ‘My AI Journey’.

Long-time camp facilitators, Halls of Learning, provided a dynamic and interactive platform for participants to explore robotics, coding, and engineering through the use of AI.

Through hands-on projects and interactive sessions, campers unleashed their creativity, strengthened problem-solving skills, and experienced the value of teamwork in a fun and engaging environment.

Marvin Hall, founder of Halls of Learning, expressed his joy with SVF’s continued engagement of youth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning.

“Our team looks forward to this camp each year as the Supreme Ventures Foundation provides a space for us to engage children who may not otherwise have access to this type of learning. This year’s batch was particularly enthusiastic and excited about the curriculum,” said Hall

“Each year we look forward to enhancing the curriculum and so we’re pleased with the direction of this year’s content. Adding an AI component to this year’s programme made it even more relevant and engaging for the participants,” Hall added.

The curriculum included learning how to engineer AI prompts, making digital pets, and using video avatar technology to create personalised digital ambassadors that can speak multiple languages.

As part of its commitment to nation-building, SVF also welcomed 25 wards of the State among the cohort, made possible through its ongoing partnership with the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA).

This ensured that children from diverse backgrounds were able to benefit from the unique learning experience.

The week-long camp concluded with a prize-giving ceremony celebrating the achievements of all participants.

During the event, trophies were presented to standout campers, and grants totalling $200,000 were awarded to the top four participants.

“Through the annual Junior Creators Robotics Camp, we continue to nurture the next generation of innovators and problem solvers who will lead Jamaica into a future driven by technology and creativity,” said Heather Goldson, SVF director.

“Including wards of the State in this initiative reflects our vision of creating opportunities that empower all children,” added Goldson.

She said the Junior Creators Robotics Camp remains a cornerstone of SVF’s youth development initiatives, aligning education, technology, and creativity to inspire tomorrow’s leaders.
