KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica have taken control of Group B of the Concacaf final round World Cup qualifiers after beating Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 at the National Stadium in Kingston on Tuesday for their second straight win.

A maiden senior international goal from Bailey-Tye Cadamarteri in the first half and Jonathan Russell’s fifth for Jamaica in the second half, saw the Reggae Boyz improve to six points from two games, two more than Curacao who outscored Bermuda 3-2 for their first win of the round.

Trinidad and Tobago, who are on one point from their draw against Curacao in the first game, will think they deserved more but all three times they managed to get past goalkeeper Jahmali Waite, the goal was ruled out for offside, all by Levi Garcia.

Jamaica took the lead in the 36th minute when the 20 -year-old Cadamarteri, who made his debut in the first game of the round against Bermuda on Friday, took full advantage of a poor pass from a Trinidad and Tobago defender and got by two more before firing past goalkeeper Denzil Smith.

Russell doubled the advantage when he pounced on a loose ball in the 57th minute and fired past Smith.

A VAR check showed Russell was in an offside position but because Trinidad and Tobago’s defender Kobi Henry was the last player to touch the ball before it dropped for the Jamaican midfielder, and the goal stood.

The qualifying will break until the October international window when Jamaica will be away to Curacao in a crucial top of the zone clash and Bermuda at home.
