TOKYO, Japan — Orlando Bennett ran a personal best 13.08 seconds (-0.3m/s) and Tyler Mason equalled his personal best 13.12 seconds as Jamaica got an unexpected silver and bronze in the 110m hurdles on day four of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

It was the first medals at a senior global championships for both men, who had won silver medals at the World Under-20 Championships.

Jamaica now has five medals— a gold won by Oblique Seville in the men’s 100m; three silver won by Kishane Thompson in the men’s 100m, Tina Clayton in the women’s 100m and now Bennett; as well as Mason’s bronze— to be fourth on the tables.

Overlooked by most pundits and fans going into the championships, Bennett and Mason impressed through the rounds and delivered when it mattered.

Bennett lowered his previous lifetime best from 13.09 seconds while Mason ran the exact same time he did in the semi-final, a third time he was running 13.12 seconds after he first did it at the Jamaican National Championships in July 2023.

American world leader Cordell Tinch won the gold with 12.99 seconds.
