Tokyo 2025: Clarke and James-King fail to advance to 400m hurdles final
TOKYO, Japan — Jamaica will not be represented in the men’s 400m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan after Roshawn Clarke and Malik James-King both ended their quest in the semi-finals on day five at the National Stadium.
Clarke, who ran from lane two, started slowly and despite a better second half of the race, could only manage 48.37 seconds as American Rai Benjamin won with 47.95 seconds, beating Brazil’s Allison dos Santos— 48.16 seconds.
Meanwhile, James-King ran a gallant season’s best 48.01 seconds for fourth in his semi-final race that was won by Ezekiel Nathaniel of Nigeria, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champion, in 47.47 seconds, ahead of Qatar’s Ismail Doudai Abakar, who ran a personal best of 47.61 seconds.
