Wheatley and Montague return to Holness’ Cabinet
Dr Andrew Wheatley and Robert Montague are in the Cabinet for the first time in years as they were among 19 ministers sworn in as part of the new executive of government on Wednesday at King’s House in St Andrew.
Wheatley has been re-appointed more than seven years after being forced to resign as minister of energy, science and technology due to a corruption scandal that engulfed a number of entities under his portfolio. Under the new Cabinet announced on Wednesday, he will now have responsibility for science, technology and special projects as minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister.
Montague had resigned from the Cabinet in March 2022 after a damning Integrity Commission report on the Firearm Licensing Authority citing Montague for knowingly granting firearm permits to six people with criminal traces while he was national security minister. On Wednesday, he was sworn in as minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development responsible for land titling and settlements.
Wheatley and Montague are the only new additions to Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ Cabinet. The other members are Holness, Dr Horace Chang, Fayval Williams, Daryl Vaz, Edmund Bartlett, Delroy Chuck, Audrey Marks, Olivia Grange, Floyd Green, Desmond McKenzie, Dr Christopher Tufton, Aubyn Hill, Kamina Johnson Smith, Matthew Samuda, Robert Morgan, Pearnel Charles Jr and Dr Dana Morris Dixon.
