LEADERS Montego Bay United (MBU) will be hunting a fourth-straight win when they take on fourth-placed Portmore United in the second game of a Jamaica Premier League double-header at Drewsland Stadium, starting at 5:30 pm.

Montego Bay have 10 points from four games while Portmore United have seven.

If last season is anything to go by, the prospect of goals between Montego Bay and Portmore is not very high as they played out three 0-0 results last season. A preseason practise game between the teams produced a single goal in favour of Montego Bay.

MBU have got off to a fast start to the season, scoring 10 goals — a tally that is second only to Racing United’s 11. However, the St James-based team will be up against the league’s stingiest defence, which has given up only three goals in four outings.

Last time out, Portmore were made to work hard for their 1-0 win over promoted Spanish Town Police, who are yet to earn a point in the top flight.

Last week, against Tivoli Gardens, MBU had a dominant first half in which they scored three times during a 25-minute span.

Jourdain Fletcher, with three goals; Dwight Merrick, who got a first-half double against Tivoli Gardens; and Jahmari Clarke, who scored in his first two games in the league, have combined for seven of Montego Bay’s goals this campaign.

In the curtain-raiser at Drewsland Stadium, second-placed Racing United (nine points) will be hoping to extend their club record-perfect start to four wins in a row when they play designated visiting team Dunbeholden FC (six points).

The encounter promises open, fast-paced football from two predominantly attacking teams.

Racing United outscored Treasure Beach FC last week but will face sixth-placed Dunbeholden who are coming off a 2-0 win over Molynes United.

Elsewhere, defending champions Cavalier FC will hope to end a two-game losing skid when they host Treasure Beach at Sabina Park, while Tivoli Gardens and Molynes United are set to meet at Edward Seaga Sports Complex.

The Cavalier versus Treasure Beach contest will see two teams locked on four points, desperately trying to avoid slipping further down the league table.

Tivoli Gardens and Molynes United are also struggling to find their footing, and while it is still early in the season both teams must start accumulating points.

Tivoli Gardens are in 11th place on four points, narrowly ahead of 13th-place Molynes (two points).
