Prosecutors recommend over 11 years in prison for ‘Diddy’ in prostitution case
Federal prosecutors are urging a judge to sentence Sean “Diddy” Combs to more than 11 years in prison following his conviction on prostitution-related charges.
According to People magazine, Combs was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution after a high-profile federal trial. He was acquitted of more severe charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.
In a sentencing memorandum, prosecutors argued that the music mogul’s actions were serious and warrant a substantial prison term.
“His crimes of conviction are serious and have warranted sentences over 10 years in multiple cases for defendants who, like Sean Combs, engaged in violence and put others in fear,” the document states. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of at least 135 months, just over 11 years.
The memorandum also describes Combs as “unrepentant,” citing a pattern of abusive behaviour. As reported by People, prosecutors referenced testimony from Combs’ former partner, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who spoke during the trial about his past abuse.
The prosecution’s recommendation is significantly longer than what the defence is requesting. Combs’ attorneys have asked Judge Arun Subramanian to impose a sentence of no more than 14 months. Combs has already spent over a year in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn following his arrest in September 2024. He was denied bail both before and after the trial.
Judge Subramanian is expected to sentence Combs on Friday, October 3.
He is also currently considering a defence motion seeking to overturn the conviction.
