Sweden host Switzerland in crucial World Cup qualifier…Spain looks to maintain perfect record against Georgia in Elche showdown

Sweden host Switzerland in crucial World Cup qualifier…Spain looks to maintain perfect record against Georgia in Elche showdown

Sweden and in-form Switzerland will light up Hampden Park later today as the October World Cup qualifiers kicks off, then on Saturday, red-hot Spain will look to burn down the Georgian bridge when they host the Georgians in Elche, Spain.

Event # 1 –WCQ – Sweden vs Switzerland– 1:45PM

Sweden will host Switzerland in a vital World Cup qualifier later today, aiming to really kick start their campaign. Sweden’s start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign has been nothing short of disappointing, following their poor performances in their opening two matches. Firstly, they gave up a stoppage time goal and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Slovenia before being ambushed and embarrassed 2-0 by Kosovo. The Swedes are aware that they must kick-start their campaign before it’s too late, as they sit third in the group, five points behind upcoming opponents Switzerland, and anything but a win at home may spell disaster for their World Cup hopes. On the bright side, Sweden has been good at home in recent times, losing just one of their last 10 matches (W9 D1), winning each of their last five.

Switzerland, on the other hand, enter this vital clash in red-hot form, having smashed Slovenia 3-0, before hammering Kosovo 4-0, to comfortably lead the group and will be aiming to secure a result on enemy turf to edge one step closer to securing their berth in World Cup 2026. The Swiss enter this clash with confidence at an all-time high, having dispatched World Cup co-host USA 4-0 in the states, then impressively brushing aside Mexico 4-2, meaning scoring goals isn’t a problem for this Swiss team. This impressive Swiss team arrives in Sweden unbeaten in their last six matches, winning their last five in a row.

Key Stats

• Sweden – Sweden have won their last five overall matches at home by an aggregate scoreline of 20-5. The Swedes have drawn one and lost one of their opening two World Cup qualifiers.

• Switzerland – Similar to Sweden, Switzerland have won their last five overall matches by an aggregate of 18-3. The Swiss have won their opening two World Cup qualifiers

• Both sides – Sweden are unbeaten in the last four matches against Switzerland (W2 D2). However, the Swiss are unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches, while the Swedes are winless in their last two matches – WCQ’s

The betting tip: Switzerland win.

Event # WCQ– Spain vs Georgia – 1:45PM

Spain and Georgia will lock horns in their 2026 World Cup qualifier on Saturday in Elche. The Spaniards enter this clash full of confidence, having started their World Cup qualifying campaign in impressive fashion after they thumped Turkey 6-0 and Bulgaria 3-0 in their opening two matches. Having won the Euro 2024 and the 2023 Nations League titles, Spain will be looking to add the World Cup to their trophy cabinet and will be one of the favourites to do so when the tournament kicks off next June. With that said, entering this game, Spain will be confident of another victory over a Georgian team that they have had the better of in recent times. Since 2016, Spain have beaten Georgia five times in their six meetings, scoring a whopping 25 goals along the way, meaning they are averaging more than four goals per game against Georgia.

Georgia, meanwhile, have been impressive in their own right, with four wins from the last six matches, scoring 16 goals during this excellent run. The Georgians lost their opening game 3-2 at home to Turkey but rebounded to beat Bulgaria 3-0 in their second match. While Spain have had the upper hand in this contest recently, Georgia has scored in every match they have played lately — no small feat for a nation once seen as underdogs in Europe. However, securing a result against the might of Spain, away from home, might prove a tall order for this Georgian team, who have conceded an average of four goals per game in each of their last five matches against the Spaniards.

Key Stats

• Spain – Spain have won their last six World Cup qualifiers and 12 of the last 18 home World Cup qualifiers.

• Georgia – Georgia have scored in five of the last six matches against Spain and has scored in seven of the last eight overall matches.

• Both sides – Spain have won seven and lost one of the last eight matches against Georgia and have won by 2+ goals in their last four matches against the Georgians.

The betting tip: Spain win.
