KINGSTON, Jamaica — The newly appointed Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Claudette Thompson has reaffirmed her commitment to integrity, transparency and public service as she officially assumed her new role this week.

In a statement following her first full day in office, Thompson expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in her and the support received from those across the justice system.

“I acknowledge the weight of responsibility that comes with this role and pledge to maintain the highest standards of public service,” she said.

Thompson emphasised that her tenure will focus on preserving the office’s integrity and excellence while ensuring that the office continues to serve the public with diligence and dedication.

“As a dedicated public servant, I am committed to upholding the integrity and excellence that our office embodies. I will work to ensure that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) remains focused on serving the public with diligence and dedication,” she added.

Thompson vowed that the ODPP would hold true to its mission to deliver “service above self”. She also highlighted the importance of open communication and transparency in her approach to public service.

“As a matter of principle, I believe in keeping the public informed about our work. As necessary I am committed to openness and transparency and believe in maintaining the public’s trust,” she stated.

Thompson further noted that her focus is on duty, not recognition.

“I am not a celebrity, nor do I seek to be one. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is clear concerning its role. As such, I reiterate my commitment to serving the public with integrity, transparency and accountability.”

Thompson succeeds Paula Llewellyn, who served as Jamaica’s DPP for 16 years before her retirement earlier this year.
