US cops still searching for elderly man who reported falling into hole

Police in Oregon, United States, are still searching for a 78-year-old man who called them on Tuesday to tell them he had fallen into a hole, according to a report from The Independent.

Thomas Weightman reportedly left his family home before 10 am but did not return and was then reported missing around 5:30 pm.

Weightman had called 911, telling cops he fell into a hole but wasn’t sure where he was.

So far, police have not been successful using cell phone triangulation to find the elderly man in the remote area where he disappeared.

Local authorities have expressed concerns about the rough terrain and the cold temperatures, expected to reach as low as 39 degrees, according to the report, as the man’s family says he was wearing a flannel when he went missing

As of Friday, search crews and neighbours continued to search for the elderly man while a Fox 12 report noted that upwards of 10 agencies are working on the case, using drones, dogs and foot patrols.
