Celebrities have started to donate their time, visibility, and money to relief efforts for parishes devastated by Hurricane Melissa, particularly stars with ties to Jamaica.

Rock-blooded British actress Jodie Turner-Smith is among the first. She launched a T-shirt campaign with the leading global health and humanitarian organisation Project HOPE to raise funds for recovery efforts this past weekend. Turner-Smith was born in the UK to Jamaican immigrants who made sure that, even in a small English city, she stayed connected to her culture.

“Inspired by a photo of my daughter and me in Jamaica last winter, my intention is to reflect hope, community, resilience, and reverence for the island that holds my roots.
