Guardsman provides free Wi-Fi to staff, residents in communities hard-hit by Melissa
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Guardsman Group says it has begun installing Starlink satellite internet at its offices in the hardest-hit parishes providing staff, their families, and members of nearby communities with free internet access.
“Our priority is people,” said Kenneth Benjamin, executive chairman of Guardsman Group. “This isn’t about operations, it is about giving families hope. If we can help someone tell their loved ones they’re safe, or for them to find out if their loved ones are okay, that’s what matters.”
As Hurricane Melissa tore through southern and western Jamaica, it left behind silence and separation. Communities were cut off, networks collapsed, and families went days without hearing from one another.
Guardsman has also launched a donation drive to support affected families both within and beyond the organisation. The company said items such as food, water, blankets, clothing, and baby essentials can be dropped off at any Guardsman office island-wide.
In addition, a company-wide blood drive is being organised among Guardsman employees to support hospitals and communities treating those injured or in need of emergency care following the storm.
“As a nation, we’ve faced hardship before and always found strength in unity,” added Benjamin. “This is not just about Guardsman, it is about Jamaica. We are part of this country’s fabric, and when our people hurt, we hurt with them. Together, we will rebuild.”
