Grace Jerk Festival to support hurricane recovery today

Mr Vegas, Romain Virgo lead line-up

Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival (GJJF) returns to South Florida today, Sunday, November 9, 2025, with a sizzling mix of Caribbean culture, mouthwatering food, and electrifying reggae and soca music.

Headlining this year’s main stage are three international powerhouses — Romain Virgo, Mr Vegas, and Destra — bringing reggae, dancehall, and soca together for an experience celebrating food, music and culture.

But the focus this year has taken on supporting the victims of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, which battered the western side of Jamaica two Tuesdays ago.

GJJF has joined forces with Connex Air Cargo and SSMC Xpress International Couriers to collect, mobilise and transport urgently needed relief supplies to devastated communities across Jamaica.

The public is encouraged to support Jamaica by dropping off donations of hurricane supplies at the festival being staged at Miramar Regional Park, or at SSMC Xpress International Couriers, or contributing through the GJJF’s relief collection network.

Connex Air Cargo will serve as the official carrier, airlifting shipments directly into Kingston to ensure timely and secure delivery to affected areas. SSMC Xpress International Couriers, known for its dependable logistics service between Florida and Jamaica, will coordinate the collection and consolidation of donations before air transport directly to devastated areas.

On stage will be performances from The Wailers, delivering timeless classics from Bob Marley’s vast repertoire; reggae crooner Romain Virgo; dancehall icon Mr Vegas; and Destra Garcia, the “Queen of Bacchanal” infusing soca energy and sultry island vibes.

Beyond the music, GJJF guests will also enjoy co-hosts Chef Irie Spice and Suzette Speaks; a new kids culinary and healthy eating interactive area with cooking demos; celebrity chef Travis Reece; the Chef’s Throwdown with innovative Caribbean chefs Clay and Rose; Celebrity Quick Fire Challenge with Konshens and Papa Keith; Influencer Quick Fire Challenge with 2024 winner Monica Garcia and challenger Sky Princess; as well as cultural performances, dance showcases, and storytelling.

“[T]his year’s festival means more than ever. As our island home recovers from unimaginable devastation, we’re calling on South Florida to stand with Jamaica. All donations collected at the festival will be delivered promptly with care to support hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica,” commented Eddy Edwards, president & CEO, Jerk Festivals USA.

“When disaster strikes at home, we feel it in our hearts no matter where we are in the world. The need is urgent — for food, shelter, and the rebuilding of lives. Jamaica is hurting — but we are a resilient people. I urge everyone in South Florida to give what they can, to help our families and communities rebuild an even stronger Jamaica,” added Jamaican Consul General Oliver Mair.

“Our hearts are with our brothers and sisters in Jamaica,” said Luke Hamilton, chairman of Connex Air Cargo. “This partnership is more than logistics — it’s about community, compassion, and connection. We’re honoured to use our network and aircraft to help deliver hope where it’s needed most.”

The first flight of relief supplies is scheduled to depart Miami within the coming days, carrying donations including food, water, clothing, and hygiene essentials.

Christopher Morris, Florida operations manager for SSMC Xpress International, stated: “The welfare of our communities is our utmost priority, especially during challenging times like the present. We are committed to deploying our resources and working diligently to provide and support for hurricane relief efforts. Together, we will facilitate rebuilding and recovery. It is the right thing to do.”

Known as the largest Caribbean food festival in the US, GJJF presented by Publix and VP Records, has a reputation of rich island flavours and vibes in a festival experience. Guests will enjoy culinary delights from top Jamaican and Caribbean chefs and food vendors showcasing authentic jerk cuisine and innovative twists on a variety of tasty cuisine.
