Poko Loko set to reopen, assists with hurricane relief efforts
After a devastating blow by Hurricane Beryl last year, the operators of Poko Loko, the floating bar located in Ocho Rios, managed to survive Hurricane Melissa unscathed.
The popular hot spot is set to reopen to the public this Saturday, November 15.
“I just want to thank everyone for the prayers, texts and emails that we received about the bar. I’m so happy to say that we didn’t even get a scratch on the bar the entire time (during the passage of Hurricane Melissa). We had a great hurricane plan set up, which we followed to the T. We moved the bar to safe harbour location, we tied it down, and we had security on board, as well as maintenance staff the entire time, and everything just turned out great,” Chief Executive Officer Anthony Warren told Observer Online on the weekend.
Warren added, “We’re so happy and excited and we look forward to opening up again on November 15. So everybody, get ready to come out and have a great time with us at Poko Loko.”
Poko Loko is playing its part in assisting members of its team as well as residents of Ocho Rios and Browns Town, with relief supplies in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.
In conjunction with Operation Care Base at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, the company donated food supplies, generators, tools, chainsaws, Starlinks and welding equipment to support relief efforts.
