Because You Loved Me
When Diahema Heron said goodbye to Kevin Bailey after the party where they first met, they faced a choice: Let the spark fade like the last embers of a bonfire, or commit to a love that required more than just effort — it required plane tickets. They chose the latter, a decision which led to them exchanging wedding vows on August 9, 2025, at the Hibiscus Lodge in Ocho Rios.
Diahema and Kevin first locked eyes in the thick of Dream Weekend 2018 in Negril. Not quite the perfect setting for romance. What stood out, however, was Kevin’s energy and politeness.
“My first impression went deeper than his looks. He was such a gentleman, but what really drew me in was his humble soul and amazing personality. Our energy matched from the very first day,” Diahema shared with
Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).
That immediate spark quickly evolved into friendship. As they got to know each other, they discovered shared interests and values that made them feel instantly familiar to each other.
However, the reality of their situation was stark: Diahema resided in the United States while Kevin’s home was in Jamaica. Distance would be their biggest test. But for Diahema, the worry quickly dissolved as she witnessed Kevin’s dedication. “I wasn’t sure how things would work long-distance; but he never gave up hope. We kept in contact over the years as friends, and later decided to take things more seriously. Kevin and I share the same goals, being family-oriented, being my calm through all challenges,” Diahema said. “The icing on the cake was when both our families met and connected as one. My mom’s approval of him sealed my final decision.”
Kevin proposed August 2024 in an intimate setting at home on Diahema’s birthday, turning an already special occasion into a memorable one.
“It happened literally the minute I woke up on my birthday morning. I was still half-asleep when Kevin expressed his love for me, and then, right there in that quiet, intimate moment, he asked me to marry him,” Diahema recalled.
Exactly one year after the proposal, their dream day arrived. The ceremony — a personalised event perfectly fitting their style — was brought to life by Tropical Weddings Jamaica.
The day was made more poignant by a special tribute; a photo of Diahema’s grandfather, Daniel Williams, who passed away two months prior, was placed on an empty chair, symbolically including him in the ceremony.
Diahema, radiant in a Sol gown from Pantora Bridal made her entrance to the sounds of Ash B’s
Prayed For. She was met halfway by Kevin, who escorted her up to the altar where they exchanged vows guided by Rev Norman Higgins.
The exchange of wedding vows flowed seamlessly into the reception, beginning with a banquet provided by Junior Francis Catering. Toasts to the newly-weds, the cutting of the two-tiered rum sponge and fruitcake, courtesy of Tropical Weddings Jamaica, were followed by the newly-weds’ first dance to Celine Dion’s Because You Loved Me.
Formalities complete it was now time for DJ Shem to amp up the energy with pulsating beats which continued into the wee hours of the morning.
