Fitz-Henley, Crawford, Dalrymple-Philibert deliver thousands of relief supplies to Trelawny
TRELAWNY, Jamaica —Moved by scenes of devastation across sections of Trelawny which have been impacted by Hurricane Melissa, state ministers Abka Fitz-Henley, Rhoda Crawford and Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert on Friday delivered thousands of care-packages and housing relief supplies to sections of the parish.
Crawford and Fitz-Henley spoke to the Observer Online while working in the community of Woodgrove in Trelawny South which is represented in Parliament by Dalrymple-Philibert who received both her colleagues on Friday.
“I think Westmoreland, St Elizabeth and St James have dominated the national conversation in terms of places worst affected by Melissa but I can tell you Trelawny is also in great need. We have heard the calls for help and are doing our part. Our prime minister has been particular about directing members of the executive to identify areas which have not received assistance and to do what we can to fill the gap,” Fitz-Henley shared.
Crawford said the scenes of devastation left her feeling pensive but determined to do all she can to assist in efforts to rebuild.
“A collective effort is what is required to assist our people to navigate daily challenges and we all have to do our part. Of course, the national conversation is shifting to efforts to assist our people to rebuild in a sustainable manner and that too requires all hands on board. What the people can be assured of is that our Government will do its part.
Both ministers commended Cabinet Minister Dr Andrew Wheatley who added scores of large care-packages to the supplies they handed out on Friday.
“Dr Wheatley’s move to assist from his own personal resources is what it is all about. Those of us who can help must help. I know the state agencies are working hard and doing their part in a major way but on a personal and individual level I am a strong believer that there are some of us who can do our part to bring comfort to our fellow Jamaicans who have been significantly inconvenienced by Melissa and we must do it,” Fitz-Henley reiterated.
