Apprentice jockey charged after armed robbery of teen in Portmore
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A 21-year-old apprentice jockey has been charged with multiple offences stemming from the armed robbery of a teenage girl in Portmore last month.
Charged is Delroy “Jockey” Walker, of Carol Crescent in Newlands, Portmore. Walker is facing charges of robbery with aggravation, possession of a prohibited weapon, using a prohibited weapon to commit a scheduled offence, and assault at common law.
According to reports from the Portmore Police, the incident occurred around 5:40 am on Wednesday, October 15, as the teen waited at a bus stop along Bridgeport Road. Walker allegedly approached her, brandished a firearm, and pointed it at her before robbing her of her cell phone, other personal items, and $32,000. He then escaped on foot.
The victim later reported the incident, prompting a police investigation. Walker was taken into custody and was subsequently pointed out during an identification parade, after which he was charged.
A court date is being arranged.
