Alleged meat thieves nabbed in $250k heist at Portmore café
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Four individuals have been charged with larceny as a servant, simple larceny and conspiracy in connection with the theft of 18 bags of meat from a restaurant on Lakes Pen in Portmore, St Catherine between October 20 and November 16.
Charged are Douglas Wallace otherwise called “Walla”, a 50-year-old butcher of Emerson Avenue, Kingston 20; Clinton Barnes, otherwise called “Sam”, a 69-year-old retiree, also of Emerson Avenue; Delroy Salmon, a 66-year-old car wash attendant of Baldwin Crescent, Duhaney Park, Kingston 20; and 34-year-old Shawna-Kay Cross, otherwise called “Wingie”, a sales representative of Brook Avenue, also in Duhaney Park.
Reports are that after suspecting irregularities at the establishment, the complainant reviewed surveillance footage from October 20, where Wallace was observed removing items from the business without permission. It is further alleged that Wallace was again seen removing several bags of meat from the premises and loading them into a white Toyota Probox on Sunday, November 16, with assistance from Salmon, Barnes and Cross.
The police were alerted and the vehicle with all four accused aboard was intercepted.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and the meat, valued at $251,996, was found in the trunk.
Following a caution statement from Wallace, all four were arrested and subsequently charged.
Their court date is being finalised.
