Barbara Gayle murder case adjourned to February 2026
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The man accused of the brutal murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle will return to court on February 4 next year to answer to the charges.
The case was adjourned on Monday due to an outstanding psychological report for the accused, Travis Ellis.
Prosecutors have indicated they will seek the death penalty for Ellis if he is found guilty.
Gayle was found dead at her home in the gated community of Caymanas Country Club Estate in St Catherine on December 17. Her body had multiple stab wounds and a gash to her face.
Her motor vehicle, which was stolen, was found a day later in bushes close to where Ellis was reportedly found hiding in bushes.
Two separate reports on the accused’s psychological state are needed, and the accused has only seen one doctor so far.
The matter has been adjourned for further case management.
