UDC reaffirms its commitment to national recovery as Christmas approaches
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) says it is reaffirming its commitment to maintaining safe, reliable, and uplifting public spaces for Jamaicans during the Christmas season.
Over the past several weeks, the UDC has completed restoration works at the Dunn’s River Falls and Park, Reach Falls, Ocho Rios Bay Beach, and Harmony Beach Park.
The UDC said these locations have been welcoming visitors since earlier this month, creating opportunities for families, small business owners, craft vendors, and transport operators to reconnect with steady economic activity.
Noting that the return of visitors to these spaces marks an important step in restoring community routines and contributing to the broader tourism ecosystem, the corporation says it is looking to reopen additional attractions over the coming weeks, with Long Bay Beach expected to reopen by November 29, and Bluefields Beach Park, expected to reopen the following week.
“Tourism remains one of Jamaica’s most significant economic drivers, providing income for thousands of households and supporting a wide network of service providers. Reopening key attractions as efficiently and as effectively as possible is therefore critical for visitor confidence, and for sustaining national economic recovery,” the UDC said.
General Manager Bobby Honeyghan said, “Seeing Jamaicans and visitors walking these spaces again with a sense of ease, relief, and normalcy is deeply meaningful for the corporation. These attractions play an essential role in helping people regain balance after a difficult period, and the UDC remains committed to ensuring they remain places of comfort, reliability, and national pride.”
