WATCH: Port Maria gets clean-up ahead of Christmas season
ST MARY, Jamaica – The St Mary Municipal Corporation kicked off Christmas preparation in Port Maria with a massive clean-up exercise on Sunday in collaboration with the Jamaica Fire Brigade, the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The exercise included washing of sidewalks and the removing of bulk waste from the town centre.
Mayor of Port Maria Fitzroy Wilson told the Jamaica Observer that the effort aims to set a joyful tone for residents and vendors especially after the challenges from Hurricane Mellissa.
“As I have said before, Christmas will be kept in St Mary,” Wilson said.
He further noted that the clean-up exercise will be a part of a broader push to keep Port Maria tidy and safe for Christmas.
Additionally, there is a planned meeting scheduled for Tuesday with vendors to discuss vending areas and registration for the upcoming festive season.
“For the Christmas period it will not be a free for all for the vendors. We will meet with them on Tuesday and have them registered and from there we put in place vending areas,” Mayor Wilson said.
