Mount Pleasant win Concacaf Caribbean Cup
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Mount Pleasant FA became the fourth Jamaican club to win the Concacaf Caribbean Cup, beating Dominican Republic’s Universidad O&M FC 3-2 on aggregate in the final after a 2-2 draw in Tuesday’s second leg at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The Theodore Whitmore-coached team had won the first leg 1-0 a week earlier in the Dominican Republic, and had to dig deep to beat their opponents who scored twice and led deep into the game before the Jamaicans were rescued by two substitutes – Warner Brown and Tyreek Magee.
It is a second senior title for Mount Pleasant after they were crowned Jamaican Premier League champions two years ago. They join Cavalier, who won last year, Harbour View and Portmore United as Caribbean club champions from Jamaica.

The second leg of the final was not smooth going for the Jamaicans as, despite having a numerical disadvantage after Junior Capellan was sent off in the 26th minute, Universidad O&M FC took the lead in time added at the end of the first half when Haitian national Frantzety Herard fired past goalkeeper Tafari Chambers.
Warner Brown, who had replaced Raheem Edwards at the start of the second half, restored Mt Pleasant FA’s lead on aggregate when he scored in the 62nd minute.
The celebrations were cut short, however, as seven minutes later the never-say-die Dominican Republic team went back ahead when Herard set up overlapping centre half Julen Olasagasti to score their second goal of the night.
Mt Pleasant FA had one more roll of the dice however as, with three minutes to go in regulation time, Magee, who had replaced Lamar Walker at the start of the second half, gave himself some time and fired low past goalkeeper Iraitz Gelbentzu’s left glove and just inside the upright to create history for the St Ann-based club.
