Holness pays tribute to late consul-general to New York
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness paid tribute to the late Alsion Wilson, Jamaica’s consul-general to New York during a thanksgiving service on Friday.
Holness described Wilson as “assertive” and “strong” and said she “knew what she was about,” noting that her leadership transformed the role she held.
“Consul General Wilson was not content merely to occupy an office. She reimagined what a consulate could be,” Holness said. “And through her vision, she elevated Jamaica’s presence across New York and throughout the 33 states under her jurisdiction.”
He added that her tenure reflected both dedication and compassion.
“Her work was defined by a rare combination of professional excellence and profound humanity, a blend that made her not only an outstanding public servant, but a beloved figure in the diaspora community.”
Holness said Wilson was “a good steward” and “a dependable servant of the people,” emphasising her steady leadership under pressure. “She excelled in moments of crisis when leadership matters.”
The prime minister also spoke to the personal commitment behind her service.
“Alsion sacrificed to be in this position. And I’m here today to pay respect to her as a person, but I’m also here to pay respect to her sacrifice. She wanted to serve,” he said.
During the service Wilson was posthumously recognised with the Order of Distinction.
Wilson died on November 8, 2025.
