Grange hails Jamaica bobsleigh team for strong North American Cup performance
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange has praised Jamaica’s bobsleigh athletes following an impressive run on the North American Cup circuit, where the team secured multiple podium finishes across the men’s two-man and four-man events.
Grange highlighted the four-man team’s gold-medal performance in Park City, Utah, noting that the athletes overcame technical challenges to secure the top spot.
The minister also welcomed news that Jamaica is on track to qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Brakeman Tyquendo Tracey expressed confidence in the team’s prospects and commended pilot Shane Pitter for his consistency and speed, which he said have contributed significantly to the squad’s recent success.
Olympian Audra Segree has also expressed optimism about the women’s team, saying Jamaica is poised to qualify in the two-woman event as preparations for Cortina continue.
Grange said the athletes’ determination and performance reflect the legacy of Jamaica’s historic 1988 Olympic debut, which inspired the film Cool Runnings, and demonstrate the country’s ongoing ability to excel on the international stage.
