Man fined $2,000 for possession of offensive weapon
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man was fined $2,000 for possession of an offensive weapon after pleading guilty in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
When Oneil Thompson appeared before Chief Parish Judge Chester Brooks, he was asked whether he was guilty of having a ratchet knife on his person.
While pleading he admitted that he was guilty but there was an explanation. Thompson explained that the knife was a tool of his trade.
Brooks then asked Thompson why he told police, upon his arrest, that he had used the knife to defend himself in the street.
Thompson explained that even the police had agreed that the knife was not an adequate means of defending himself.
“If you look at it you can tell it is a working knife,” he shared.
He was fined $2,000 or 15 days in jail.
