Ben Francis Cup semi-finalists decided
ST JAMES, Jamaica—Three former champions are through to the semi-finals of the ISSA Ben Francis Cup competition after scoring wins in Tuesday’s quarter-finals.
Cornwall College, Clarendon College and McGrath High as well as Mannings’ School, all booked their spots in Thursday’s semi-finals for a place in the final set for Saturday at the National Stadium.
Cornwall College came from a goal down to beat Manchester High 4-2 on penalty kicks; Clarendon College edged Garvey Maceo High 1-0; McGrath High hammered Ocho Rios High 4-1, while Mannings’ School got by Christiana High 2-1.
In Thursday’s semi-finals, Cornwall College will face McGrath High for the second time this season, while Clarendon College will meet Mannings’ School.
Manchester High, who had beaten William Knibb 5-0 in the first round last week, took the lead in the 54th minute when Michael Reid scored from the penalty spot after Cornwall College’s goalkeeper Carlyle Tinglin was adjudged to have fouled Troydian Flemmings inside the 18-yard box.
Cornwall College drew level in the 72nd minute when Mekhi Foster headed a corner powerfully past goalkeeper Jahleijah Ward.
In the shootout Cornwall College scored all four kicks taken by Deshaun Talbert, Kayvon Donaldson, Carlondo Morris and Lebron Malcolm.
Tinglin saved shots from Brandon Brown and Conrad Messam while Samuel Smith and Deante Walker scored.
At Ewarton Sports Complex Romario Williams scored twice and Jimm Mitchell and Isaac Mason got one each for McGrath High as they stayed on course to win a second Ben Francis Cup in three years with a comfortable win.
At Manchester High Mannings’ School with goals from Jordan Turner and Kajaye Williams, ended Christiana High’s season.
