Excelsior upset JC to lift first Manning Cup in 21 years
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Excelsior High defeated Jamaica College 2-0 to win the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Wata Manning Cup at the National Stadium on Friday, ending the school’s 21-year championship drought in the competition.
Kimarley Scott scored the opener in the 57th minute and Kivann Salmon sealed the deal in time added on after 90 minutes as Excelsior secured their eighth lien on the coveted Manning Cup, the first since 2004.
While it was a welcoming win for an Excelsior team that was in the wilderness for more than two decades, it was heartbreak for JC which was losing their first and only game of the season and went in the final as favourites.
