Mohanlal impressive in Miss Ruth Trophy, emerges as next year’s Classic contender

Mohanlal (Casual Trick – Raise Your Voice) has emerged as a contender for next year’s Classic series of races after a dominant win in the $1.01-million Miss Ruth Trophy on December 20, 2025.

The two-year-old bay colt Mohanlal, trained by Richard Azan, romped to an 8 ½ length victory in the maiden special weight contest over 6 furlongs (1,200m). While the final time of 1:16.2 (24.1 x 49.4 x 1:02.3) wasn’t spectacular, Mohanlal’s impressive display suggests he’s a horse to watch.

Apprentice jockey Tajay Suckoo got Mohanlal off to a great start, battling for the lead with Abudar (Ian Spence), Another Quality (Shane Ellis), and For My Love (Aaron Chatrie). As they hit the half-mile mark, Another Quality took the reins, but Suckoo wasn’t having it. He gave Mohanlal a bit more room, and the bay colt responded, zooming past Another Quality approaching the distance.

Hitting the drive full of running, Mohanlal accelerated and powered home to win easily in the end. For My Love took second, and Brilliant Boy (Raddesh Roman) rounded out the top three.
