Reconstructed version of Bam Bam returns to Billboard
Jamaican (Bam Bam), a reconstructed dance and house version of Sister Nancy’s iconic Bam Bam, has danced its way onto Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart.
Thanks to French remixers and house music producers HUGEL and SOLTO, new life was breathed into the song; the result, a bold rhythmic reinterpretation created for the modern dance floor.
Throughout the entire process, Sister Nancy’s voice remains firm and alive, anchoring the song in its roots and carrying it forward.
Jamaican (Bam Bam) debuted at #4 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart in November and it eventually peaked at #2. It currently holds firm in the #6 position.
The song was released via MoBlack Records in November.
Bam Bam has been remixed and sampled on multiple occasions. Its last appearance on any Billboard chart was in August 2017, when Bam by Jay-Z, featuring Damian Marley and Sister Nancy, peaked at #21 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Elsewhere on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 Airplay chart, Vybz Kartel is the sole Jamaican connection on the listing. He is a featured act on rapper Travis Scott’s PBT, which remains at #5 for a third week. South African singer Tyla is also featured on the track, which was released via Cactus Jack/Epic Records.
Moving to the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, where dancehall artiste Masicka’s EP Her Name is Love did not make its debut. However, Sean Paul’s 2018 EP Mad Love: The Prequel makes its re-entry at #10. The set peaked at #4 just seven years ago.
Bob Marley and the Wailers log 311 non-consecutive weeks at #1 with Legend, while Shaggy’s
Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection remains at #2.
The Trinity by Sean Paul stays put at #3, while his Dutty Rock stalls at #4.
World on Fire by Stick Figure, Greatest Hits by UB40, and Exodus by Bob Marley and the Wailers are #5, #6 and #7.
Set in Stone and0 Wisdom by Stick Figure hold positions #8 and #9.
On regional charts, So Long by Neto Yuth and Anthony B remains at #1 on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart, while Feels Like a Movie by Celena is #2. Wheel and Come Again by SkyStar is at #3, Show Us the Way by Mirian Katrib, Irie Souljah and Reggaddiction is #4. Loving You Forever by Tesharah is at #5.
There are two new entries: At #9, Jamaican-born singer Jurney Star returns with Forevermore, while at #10, Marku Lyrical makes his debut with Ways of the World.
Where Do I Fit by Kashief Lindo spends a 4th week at #1 on the South Florida Reggae chart, while
Trench Town Legend by Alborosie steps up from #11 to #8.
Dancehall Ball by AJ Brown bolts from #21 to #17, while A Change to Love by Leroy Sibbles and
Feel So Alive by Maxi Priest and Sean Paul debut at # 23 and #25, respectively.
Over on the New York Reggae chart, Sherell Rosegreen’s cover of Come Jesus Come, made popular by CeCe Winans, takes over the #1 spot.
We Nah Done by Macka B rises from #12 to #9, Your Grace and Mercy by George Nooks climbs from #17 to #13, and Shuga’s remake of Montego Bay moves up from #26 to #24.
