Magnitude 5.6 earthquake jolts St Lucia
CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 jolted St Lucia on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) said the quake occurred at 5:48 pm (local time) at a depth of 30 kilometres (km).
It was also felt 65 km north east of Fort-de-France, the capital of the French island of Martinique, 87 km south east of Roseau in Dominica and 114 km north north east of Castries.
Earlier on Friday, the SRC reported that several Caribbean countries had been rattled by earthquakes during the first two days of the new year and that there were no reports of injuries or damage as a result of the three quakes.
