Dunbeholden beat Cavalier in JPL

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending champions Cavalier SC lost back-to-back games in the Jamaica Premier League after they were edged 1-0 by Dunbeholden FC in their rescheduled first round game played at Dunbeholden Community Centre on Thursday.

It was Dunbeholden FC’s first win over Cavalier SC since the 2021-22 season, ending a 10-game fruitless run as they edged up the points table.

Also on Thursday, Mount Pleasant FA beat Arnett Gardens by a 1-0 margin for the second time in under two weeks in their rescheduled game played at Drax Hall.

The win enabled Mount Pleasant FA to rebound immediately from their surprise 1-0 loss to Waterhouse FC at Drax Hall on Sunday and move into fourth place in the table on 30 points with four games in hand.

Montego Bay United lead the points table with 42 points from 20 games, seven points ahead of second-placed Racing United on 35 points, with Portmore United in third place on 33 points.

Tivoli Gardens are in fifth place on 27 points, one more than Cavalier SC (26), with Dunbeholden FC a point back on 25.

It was Dunbeholden FC’s first back-to-back win of the season after they beat Harbour View 4-2 last week, thanks to Shakeem Powell’s 57th-minute goal.

Mount Pleasant FA had beaten Arnett Gardens 1-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday, January 20, the lone goal coming from the penalty spot, but were upended by Waterhouse FC at home Sunday.

Daniel Green, who had earned the penalty in their previous meeting, scored on Thursday, curling a ball from the left side high into the top right-hand corner of the goal.

The loss extended Arnett Gardens’ winless run to three games as they stayed in 10th place on 23 points.

Thursday’s Games

Mount Pleasant FA 1, Arnett Gardens-0

Dunbeholden FC 1, Cavalier SC-0
