Struggling Cavalier SC host Mt Pleasant in rescheduled JPL game
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending champions Cavalier SC will host Mount Pleasant FA in a rescheduled Jamaica Premier League (JPL) second round game at Stadium East on Wednesday, set to kick off at 4:00 pm.
Under normal circumstances, the game between the last two Concacaf Caribbean Cup champions, who have met in the last three JPL finals, would have been must-see football, but the teams are heading in different directions in the tables.
Cavalier SC are mired in a slump, losing their last three games and have slipped to eighth place on 26 points, the same as Arnett Gardens, who have played one game more but have scored more goals.
Mount Pleasant FA, on the other hand, are seeking a third straight win and could take over third place, moving past Portmore United on goal difference and will still have three games in hand.
Games between the two clubs have always been competitive, with eight of their 14 meetings seeing either team winning by a one-goal margin, and only three games between them since the 2018-19 season have seen any team scoring three goals in any one game.
Mount Pleasant FA have lost just twice this season so far, while Cavalier SC have lost nine games, almost matching their total of 10 over the previous two seasons.
