Portmore United defeat Harbour View to return to third in JPL

Portmore United returned to third in the Jamaica Premier League points table after winning away at Harbour View 2-1 in their second round game played on Sunday.

The win took Portmore to 39 points, past Mount Pleasant FA who were surprisingly held to a 0-0 draw by Treasure Beach at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz.

Portmore are on the same points as second-placed Racing United who came from a goal down to play out a 1-1 draw with Montego Bay United in a top-of-the-table clash at Ferdie Neita Park.

Waterhouse FC won their fourth straight game to move up to fifth place in the table, coming from behind to win away at Dunbeholden FC 2-1, with two substitutes getting the goals.

Meanwhile, Fitzroy Reid scored a double as Arnett Garden blanked Tivoli Gardens 2-0 at Stadium East.

At Harbour View, Portmore extended their winning run over the home team to six straight as Javier Brown gave them the lead in the 29th minute before Trayvone Reid equalised in the 59th minute. Peter McGregor however scored the winner in the 68th minute as Portmore won their second game in their last eight starts, the other six ending in draws.

Montego Bay took a deserved lead against Racing in the 39th minute when Dwight Merrick beat goalkeeper Aaron Enill from about 24 yards with a looping left footer that sailed over the head of the former Montego Bay custodian and under the cross bar. But Racing hit back almost immediately when Montego Bay’s goalkeeper Davonnie Burton flattened Nickyle Ellis just inside the 18 yards box and Tajay Grant converted the ensuing penalty.
Mount Pleasant missed a chance to keep the pressure on the top two teams when they were held by relegation threatened Treasure Beach, who were getting their first-ever point from the former champions.

At Dunbeholden, the home side took the lead when Atapharoy Bygrave scored in the 34th minute but Waterhouse equalised in the 54th minute through Javane Bryan before Roberto Quiros scored the winner for the latter three minutes later.

Arnett Gardens clinched back-to-back wins when Reid scored in the 41st and 76th minutes as they jumped over Tivoli Gardens into sixth place on 29 points.

In the other game, 10-man Chapelton Maroons and Molynes United played out a 0-0 draw. Carlton Brown was sent off in the 88th minute.

Sunday’s Results-

Racing United-1 Montego Bay United-1
Molynes United-0 Chapelton Maroons-0
Dunbeholden FC-1 Waterhouse FC-2
