KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chairman of the Police Officers’ Association (POA), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Wayne Cameron, was ordered to surrender his travel documents when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday.

A stop order was also placed against him at all ports of entry as his bail in the sum of $500,000 was extended.

Cameron is accused of using his position as POA chairman to misappropriate $15 million in funds. He is charged with five counts of fraudulent conversion and six counts of larceny as a servant.

The charges stem from a months-long financial investigation conducted by the Financial Investigations Division (FID), in collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and other authorities, into alleged irregularities in the management of POA funds.

Cameron, who has been removed from frontline duty, was formally charged following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Cameron’s attorney-at-law, Matthew Hyatt, described the case as “absolutely malicious” and “a farce”.

“This prosecution that has been brought against SSP Cameron we believe is absolutely malicious. It is a farce. It is a prosecution that is built upon sand,” Hyatt said, adding that his client has served Jamaica with integrity for more than 34 years.

He said the allegations were denied and urged the public not to rush to judgment, stressing that the matter is before the court.

Cameron’s next court appearance has been set for May 28, 2026.
