JDF head in Washington for defence conference
WASHINGTON, United States — Jamaica’s Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Antonette Wemyss-Gorman, is currently in the United States participating in the Inaugural Western Hemisphere Chiefs of Defense Staff Conference.
In a post shared via X, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) indicated that Wemyss-Gorman is attending the high-level military summit in Washington DC alongside chiefs of defence and senior military leaders from around 34 countries from across the Western Hemisphere.
The aim of the conference, hosted by US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, is to discuss shared security challenges and cooperation.
On a visit to Jamaica in 2025, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had expressed support for Jamaica in crime-fighting including efforts to combat the trans national flow of illegal drugs and firearms.
