Treasure Beach hold Mt Pleasant to another scoreless draw
DRAX HALL, St Ann — Despite holding Mount Pleasant Football Academy to back-to-back 0-0 draws in a three-day span, Treasure Beach FC’s Head Coach Kemar Ricketts says the St Elizabeth club still have a lot of work to do if they are to avoid relegation from the Jamaica Premier League at the end of the season.
Three days after playing out a 0-0 draw at home at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex in Santa Cruz, Treasure Beach travelled across the island to Drax Hall on Wednesday to pick up another point and inched up to 22 points and 12th position, six points clear of the the drop zone.
The two points Treasure Beach earned over the two games were the first they ever took from the Caribbean Club champions after losing both games against them in the 2023-24 season even if they are still yet to score a goal against the St Ann-based team.
A win would have seen Mount Pleasant take over second place in the table but they instead remained in fourth on 38 points, one behind third-placed Portmore United but with two games in hand.
Also on Wednesday, 10-man Chapelton Maroons edged Molynes United 1-0 at Turner Oval to move into a three-way tie on 29 points with defending champions Cavalier in sixth and Arnett Gardens.
Today, Arnett Gardens will have the chance to break that tie and move up to fifth if they can beat Dunbeholden in a rescheduled game.
On Wednesday, Ricketts told the Jamaica Observer, their season was still “a work in progress” saying, “we still have a lot of work to do but the players showed discipline and character over these two games.”
Ricketts is, however, keeping his feet on the ground and is well aware that there is still a lot of work to do if they are to meet their objectives this season.
“We still have 18 more games to play and we won’t take anything away from this Mount Pleasant FA team but we are working hard and the work is showing,” he said. “We are still collecting points, one here and three there.”
Meanwhile at Turners Oval, the veteran Leaughn Williams came off the bench to score in the 85th minute to end a four-games run without a win for the Maroons, including a 0-0 draw in their previous game against Molynes United.
Robino Gordon was shown a red card in 90th minute.
Today, Arnett Gardens will go after a sixth straight win over Dunbeholden FC who have lost three in a row coming into the game.
One of those losses was a 1-0 reverse against Arnett Gardens when a mistake by the goalkeeper late in the game decided the contest.
Arnett Gardens have won consecutive games and are hoping to return to the top six with another victory.
