Cops make AK-47 find in east Kingston
A high-powered weapon and almost 300 rounds of assorted ammunition were found during a targeted raid at Glasspole Avenue in Rockfort, east Kingston, on Friday.
The firearm, an AK-47 assault rifle, was discovered along with two hundred and forty-eight (248) 9mm cartridges and fifty (50) 5.6 cartridges.
Reports reaching Observer Online are that between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm, members of the Kingston Eastern police went to the location in search of weapons.
During the search, the police said the illegal firearm was found wrapped in a bag and hidden in a white plastic pipe, at the back of the property, which is heavily covered with bushes.
A further search was conducted at another section of the property, where the ammunition was found wrapped in a black-market bag.
Police intelligence indicated that the firearm and ammunition belonged to the Top Temple gang and were moved to that location for storage. Firearms and ammo were also sold from the location, the police said.
No arrests were made in connection with the seizure, the police said.
