Manchester fast-food workers accused of stealing $600,000 from customer’s bank card
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Three employees of a fast-food restaurant in Manchester have been arrested and charged after allegedly fleecing approximately $600,000 from a customer’s bank card over the weekend.
They are 29-year-old Shaquiel Salmon of Swaby’s Hope district, Manchester; 20-year-old Abigail Preddie, a cashier of Confidence Avenue, Manchester; and 22-year-old Shane Williams of Knowles Road, Manchester.
Personnel from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Specialised Investigation Branch have charged all three individuals with unauthorised access to computer data, simple larceny, conspiracy to defraud, and engaging in a transaction involving criminal property.
According to reports, Williams allegedly photographed customers’ credit and debit card information while working the drive-through at a fast-food restaurant. The information was then reportedly used to purchase Bitcoin from overseas merchants. The cryptocurrency was subsequently resold, and the laundered funds were transferred into local accounts.
Meanwhile, police also reported that two illegal firearms and five rounds of ammunition were seized during a separate police operation on West Main Drive, Maverley, St Andrew, on Saturday afternoon.
No arrests were made in connection with that seizure.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
