Bermuda recalls infant and baby milk formula products
HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) – Bermuda’s health authorities have issued an “urgent recall” of several infant milk and follow-on milk formula products due to the possible presence of a toxin known as cereulide.
The country’s Ministry of Health said it is advising the public that the US-based Danone, a food and beverage company present in over 120 countries, had issued an urgent recall of several Cow & Gate and Aptamil infant milk and follow-on milk formula products as cereulide may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps.
The ministry said that a number of the 15 recalled products are known to have been available for sale in Bermuda and that environmental health officers have removed affected products from shelves in several local stores.
“Parents and caregivers who have purchased any of the recalled products are strongly advised not to feed them to infants. Instead, please return the product to the store where it was purchased. A full refund will be provided, with or without a receipt,” it said.
It said customers can visit www.cgbabyclub.co.uk to check which batch numbers are included in the recall and that further information or assistance can also be obtained through the same website.
“The ministry of health will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary,” the statement added.
