William Knibb’s Seymore runs World Under 20 lead in Western Champs semis

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica—William Knibb Memorial’s Sanjay Seymore ran a world under-20 leading and personal best of 10.26 seconds (1.4 m/s) to lead the Class 1 boys’ 100m after the semi-finals at Saturday’s COCAA Western Championships being held at GC Foster College in Angels, St Catherine.

Seymore, who held off Holland High’s Johan-Ramaldo Smythe who finished in 10.32 seconds, broke his previous best of 10.49 seconds to go ahead of fellow Jamaican Jamal Stephenson of Calabar High, who ran 10.38 seconds to win the Corporate Area title on Friday.

Oshane Jervis of Green Island High, with 10.78 seconds, and Herbert Morrison Technical’s Coby Watson, with 10.83 seconds, also advanced to the final set for Saturday evening.

Holland High’s World Athletics Under-20 Championships finalist Shanoya Douglas ran a wind-aided 11.99 seconds (3.8 m/s) to lead the Girls Class One 100m.

Douglas, who won the Class 2 double last year, got out fast and eased her way through the finish line as Mt Alvernia High’s Sharla Bell (12.07 seconds), Rihanna Johnson of St Elizabeth Technical and Tianna Nolan of Anchovy High also advanced.
