Drew Da Levite to release EP Surrender in April
Over the past three years since he began to pursue music professionally, gospel recording artiste Drew Da Levite has released a number of songs, including Jesus Calling, Soul Winning, My Soul, and his latest effort Right Thru.
He is set to release his first body of work in April, an EP titled Surrender. The project, he says, will be a powerful testimony about his journey in life and many trials that he has been through.
“I’ve been a musician all my life; however, I started recording and releasing music in 2023. I decided to use my gifts for God. The decision to follow a path of righteousness and to give my life to the Lord came after I felt a heavy conviction while I was at an album launch,” Drew Da Levite told the Jamaica Observer on Friday.
A born-again Christian since the age of 14, Drew Da Levite grew up in the church.
“I was very passionate about music, so my desire to serve in that ministry drove my decision to go all the way,” said Drew Da Levite, while sharing some of the trials that he has been through.
“ Mainly growing up in a volatile neighbourhood, and coming from humble beginnings, I can truly say it’s the grace of God and the purpose that he has for my life why I am still here today. Also, the root of peer pressure is the need to be validated or feel as if you belong often due to a lack of identity. To be honest, I esteem myself highly, because I know who I am in Christ and that has enabled me to be in a state of congruence and withstand the various pressures that may arise.”
Born Andrew Francis, he is from the old capital of Spanish Town in St Catherine. A former student at Jonathan Grant High, he complete sixth form at St Catherine High, and is presently in his final year at The Mico University College, where he is studying for bachelor’s degree with a guidance and counselling specialty.
His forthcoming EP will feature production by Skyylark, Mattsonicc, Daley Beatz, Jamario Morgan, and Isaac Graham.
Five of six tracks have so far been completed.
“Musically, I am dynamic, I am able to deliver powerful resonating lyrics which reflect my intellect, and I can also produce a sobering sound which brings about a feeling of reflection, conviction, and gratitude. My music is non-fictional because it helps me to grow in my faith, as my own lyrics challenge me daily, and my fear of being a hypocrite enables me to put my best foot forward even on days when sin feels easier than righteousness,” he disclosed.
