First ISSA Rural Area junior finalists to be decided today
THE first finalists in the ISSA Rural Area Burger King Under-14 and Mighty Malt Under-16 football competitions will be decided this afternoon with a double-header at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.
Cornwall College will put unbeaten records on the line in both games when they take on Garvey Maceo in the under-14 game set to kick off at 2:00 pm, and Rusea’s High in the under-16 game, set to start two hours later.
The other semi-finals are set for Thursday at Glenmuir High, with William Knibb Memorial taking on Belair High in the under-14 game and Clarendon College facing Glenmuir High in the under-16 game.
All games are play-to-finish affairs, with the winners in each game advancing to the final set for next week.
Both Cornwall College teams have drawn just once all season, both on the same day in the quarter-finals, when the under-14 earned a 1-1 draw away to last year’s winners Glenmuir High, and the under-16 team was held 2-2 by Munro College.
Both rebounded to win their next two games and topped their respective zones.
Garvey Maceo had finished second to William Knibb in their quarter-final group, but only on goal difference, and will be looking to get back to the final after they had won back-to-back titles a few years ago.
In the under-16 game Rusea’s High could be hoping to get revenge for their under-14 team that lost twice to Cornwall College by 3-1 scorelines, in the second round and again in the quarter-finals.
The Hanover school had picked up four points in the quarter-final, winning one, drawing and losing once while scoring three goals and conceding three.
