Education minister, MP visit Ocho Rios High after student’s death
ST ANN, Jamaica — Education Minister Senator Dana Morris-Dixon has arrived in Ocho Rios, St Ann, where she is expected to visit the school of a student who died after reportedly being struck in the head with a metal chair during an altercation with another student on Wednesday.
She is accompanied by Member of Parliament for St Ann North Eastern, Matthew Samuda.
During the visit, the officials are expected to meet with administrators at Ocho Rios High School as well as the parents of 16-year-old Devonie Shearer. The teen was taken to St Ann’s Bay Hospital following the incident, where doctors determined he had suffered a blunt trauma fracture.
He later succumbed to his injuries.
The student accused in the incident is currently in police custody.

It is believed that the boys had an altercation outside of school grounds prior to the incident.
