KC, JC juggernauts to clash in ISSA urban U-14 and U-16 finals
The two most powerful football programmes in urban schoolboy football showed their hand as Kingston College (KC) and Jamaica College (JC) waltzed into both the Under-14 and Under-16 finals.
In Monday’s semi-finals, JC’s Under-14 stunned Wolmer’s Boys 2-0, while the Under-16s defeated St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) 4-3 on penalties after battling to a 0-0 draw in regulation time.
Then on Tuesday, it was time for KC to show their strength and their Under-14s, dominated Campion College but only managed a slim 1-0 win courtesy of a late goal from star striker Owayne Feautado in the 62nd minute.
KC are the Under-14 all-island champions, and they are back into the urban final, having yet to concede a goal all season while scoring 60 goals from 13 games.
In the under-16 competition, the powerful Juvaun Buckeridge scored a hat-trick as KC whipped Mona High 4-0. Buckeridge, who scored over 30 goals last year at the Under-14 level, netted in the 27th, 37th and 51st minutes. Rasheed Payne had opened the floodgates in the 19th minute.
KC and JC will meet in the Under-14 final on Thursday, March 12. Both teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the quarter-final round and another close encounter is in store. In the Under-16 final — also on Thursday, KC will again face JC with the knowledge that they defeated them 1-0 in the quarter-finals recently via an own goal. But the finals will be a different ball game, and both teams will start as equals, promising a fascinating contest between two powerhouse football schools.
