Cavalier SC secure third straight win in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending champions Cavalier Soccer Club (SC) won three straight games in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) for the first time this season when they clipped Chapelton Maroons 1-0 in their second round game played at Stadium East on Sunday.
Tivoli Gardens were also winners on Sunday, coming from behind to beat Dunbeholden Football Club (FC) 2-1 while Portmore United and Treasure Beach ended 1-1 and Arnett Gardens and Molynes United were goalless.
Cavalier SC, who were well off last season’s pace when they went on to win a second title in three years, had won back-to-back games in the JPL on two occasions and improved to 39 points in fifth place.
Romarion Thomas came off the bench in the second half to score in the 71st minute as they got the better of Chapelton for the fourth straight time.
The loss ended a two-game winning run for Chapelton who are in 10th position on 32 points.
Tivoli Gardens’ first win in seven games saw them jump to seventh place on 33 points as they avenged their first round loss to Dunbeholden who took the lead in the eighth minute when Clive Wedderburn scored.
Alton Lewis drew Tivoli Gardens level in the 13th minute before Joshua Dewar scored the winner in the 22nd minute.
Portmore United missed a chance of at last taking a share of second place when they were held 1-1 by Treasure Beach who have picked up five valuable points in their last three games.
Dunsting Cohen gave Portmore United the lead in the 22nd minute but the veteran Afiba Chambers salvaged a point for Treasure Beach when he scored the equaliser in the 76th minute.
Molynes United remained four points above the drop zone after their 0-0 draw with eighth placed Arnett Gardens who have not won in five games running.
