Elva Goulbourne, JC 1999 4×800 relay team to be honoured at Penn Relays
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Elva Goulbourne, the former Dinthill Technical long jump star and the Jamaica College 1999 4x800m relay team are to be honoured by the Penn Relays after outstanding performances at the 1999 staging of the relay carnival at Franklin field in Philadelphia.
Goulbourne set the existing high school girls’ long jump record year, while the Jamaica College team ran the then second fastest time ever.
Both are set to be inducted into the Penn Relays Wall of Fame at this year’s 130th staging of the event from April 23-25.
Goulbourne, who is the Jamaican national record holder in both outdoor and indoor long jump, broke the record at Penn Relays in 1999 with 6.40m, better than the previous record 6.33m that was set by Carol Lewis.
She also set the College record at Penn Relays with 6.65m; while competing for Auburn University and won back-to- back titles in 2002 and 2003.
The JC team of Jeffrey Wallace, Dwyane Medley, Kenrick Ferrit and Mashel Jackson ran 7:37.71 seconds.
