Jamaican dermatologist accepted into global Founder Institute accelerator
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican dermatologist and health-tech entrepreneur Dr Romario D Thomas, founder of the digital dermatology platform, Absolut Skin, has been accepted into the Spring 2026 Caribbean Cohort of the Founder Institute, one of the world’s most respected start-up accelerator programmes.
The Founder Institute (FI) is widely regarded as the world’s largest pre-seed start-up accelerator, having helped launch thousands of companies globally, including internationally recognised platforms such as Udemy. The programme is known for its rigorous founder training, global mentorship network and track record of producing venture-backed start-ups.
Thomas will participate in the FI Core programme, a highly selective accelerator designed to support early-stage founders in refining their companies, strengthening technology platforms and preparing ventures for global scale.
“This opportunity represents a major step forward for Absolut Skin,” Thomas said. “Founder Institute brings together experienced mentors, venture capitalists and founders from around the world. Being part of this ecosystem allows us to strengthen our team, refine our strategy, optimise product development and position the company for international growth.”
Absolut Skin is building a comprehensive digital dermatology ecosystem that combines artificial intelligence, skincare education, tele-dermatology and dermatologist-developed skincare products within a single platform. The company’s mobile application integrates advanced skin analysis technology, e-commerce, personalised skincare routines and access to dermatology expertise.
“Dermatology is a visual speciality that is uniquely suited to digital transformation,” Thomas explained.
He noted that the platform seeks to address a major global healthcare gap, as millions of people lack timely access to dermatologists, which can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment of common and serious skin conditions.
“Our mission with Absolut Skin is to bring dermatologist-level guidance to people wherever they are, while also strengthening the relationship between patients and qualified skin experts,” he said.
With his acceptance into the Founder Institute network, Thomas believes Absolut Skin is entering a new phase of development as the company continues expanding its digital dermatology ecosystem.
